The School of Architecture and Urban Planning at Shenzhen University is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Wang Hui as the inaugural WANG TAN Chair of Architectural Design in 2026. 首任建筑设计教席：

王 辉 教 授

Professor WANG HUI

1999年与刘晓都、孟岩共同创建URBANUS都市实践建筑设计事务所，主持北京工作室工作。美国纽约州注册建筑师，英国皇家特许注册建筑师；中国建筑学会理事；曾获诸多国内外设计奖项；也是一位对当代社会积极解读的建筑学者，近年来以讲座的形式持解读和研究现代建筑的建筑性；近十年来，有意识地开拓遗产活化设计新领域，并主导了多项在重要的历史地段的遗产新生、城市复兴设计，包括福州烟台山城市更新、沈阳东贸库城市更新、五龙庙环境整治、永乐宫旧址活化、岳阳楼景区北门等项目，以及目前在施工的虎门销烟更新工程，在学术、实践和社会层面引起深度关注。

Wang Hui co‑founded URBANUS Architecture & Design in 1999 together with Liu Xiaodu and Meng Yan, and currently leads the firm’s Beijing office. He is a registered architect in the State of New York, USA, and a Chartered Architect in the UK. He serves as a council member of the Architectural Society of China， and has received numerous design awards both domestically and internationally. Wang Hui is also an architectural scholar who actively reads architecture in the context of contemporary society. In recent years, he has been delivering series of lectures to continuously examine and interpret the modernity of modern architecture. Over the past decade, he has deliberately expanded into the emerging field of heritage revitalisation design, leading numerous projects of heritage regeneration and urban renewal in historical areas. These include the Urban Renewal of Yantai Hill and Architectural Design of Chihounong Plot in Fuzhou, Renovation of Shenyang Dongmaoku Warehouses, the Environmental Upgrade of the Five Dragons Temple, Revitalization of The Relic Site of Yongle Palace, Environmental Enhancement of the North Entrance in Yueyang Tower Scenic Area, and the currently ongoing renewal project at the Humen Opium Destruction site. His work has attracted considerable attention across academic, professional, and public spheres.

Old World, New Track: Notes on Heritage Revitalization

从十余年前，通过一个偶然的机会介入五龙庙环境整治与提升，到主持过四个国家重点文物保护单位的活化设计和众多历史地段的改造更新，建筑师王辉带领URBANUS都市实践北京工作室，在常规轻车熟路的设计领域之外，开拓了一个建筑师介入遗产保育的新赛道。幸运的是这些经过无数磨砺的项目，既获得了实施的许可，也收获了社会的肯定。然而，在表面光鲜的成果背后，是这条道路的艰辛与坎坷。借“汪坦建筑设计教席”公开讲座机会，王辉教授将分享他十多年来从事遗产活化的经验与感悟，以及自己独特的理论观点。

From more than a decade ago, when he first became involved in the environmental enhancement of the Dragon Five Temple through a chance opportunity, to leading the revitalisation design of four National Key Cultural Relic Protection Units and the regeneration of a number of historic districts, architect Wang Hui, who leads the URBANUS Beijing office, has pioneered a new track for architects in heritage conservation—stepping beyond the conventional and comfort zone of design. Fortunately, these projects, honed through countless challenges, have not only secured approval for implementation but also earned public recognition. Yet behind the outwardly impressive achievements lies a path of hardships and frustrations. On the occasion of his public lecture for the WANG TAN Chair of Architectural Design, Professor Wang Hui will share his experience and insights in heritage revitalisation, as well as his unique theoretical perspectives.

“汪坦建筑设计教席”依托汪坦建筑教育基金设立。“汪坦基金”由深圳大学建筑与城市规划学院及汪坦先生亲属倡议发起，孟建民院士、深圳大学建筑设计院给予大力支持，设立在深圳大学教育发展基金会下，旨在致敬深圳大学建筑系首任系主任汪坦先生，为深圳大学建筑学科的创立与发展作出的重要贡献，传承其建筑教育理念与开拓创新的学术精神。
