About

The Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of Shenzhen University has a Department of Architecture, Department of Urban Planning, Department of Landscape Architecture, and Department of Urban Informatics. The major of architecture, urban planning, and landscape architecture aims to transform and improve the built-environment by design, while the major of Urban Informatics aims to realize smart cities, with the application of novel technologies such as big data, AI, and drones. The School of Architecture and Urban Planning combines three traditional design disciplines with new urban sciences, to respond to the future cities and architecture.

Under this guideline, the college has formed a complete training system of "undergraduate degree-master degree-doctoral degree". With the support of the center for post-doctoral studies, the school also provides positions for postdoctoral researchers. After years of exploration and practice, a distinctive system has gradually formed:

(1) Combination of theory and practice. High integration of teaching, research, and practice;

(2) Based on the needs ofShenzhen and Greater Bay Area,, carry out targeted teaching and academic research.

(3) Conform to the development trend of globalization and pay attention to the cultivation of students' international vision.

Undergraduate:

The college implements the "One Horizontal and Multiple Vertical" teaching matrix system in undergraduate teaching. The design studios of the lower grades (grades 1 to 2) are organized horizontally by grade, to cultivate students’ design ability and comprehensive artistic literacy, establishing a cross-disciplinary platform for the three majors of architecture, urban planning, and landscape architecture. The design studio of senior grades (grades 3 to 5) is carried out in a vertical organization; establishing a three-year platform led by tutors; cultivating students' solid professional ability. The urban informatics major is a 4-year program, oriented to the two major development trends of national urbanization and informatization, and integrates basic theories such as computer science, surveying and mapping science, geographic information science, and urban science to cultivate high-end compound talents for the construction of new smart cities.

Postgraduate:

The college implements a combination of academic and professional postgraduate training, adopts a flexible academic system, and the length of study is 3 to 5 years. The master of architecture and urban planning is based on design theory and research methods, and offers design, history, and technology elective courses. In the direction of urban informatics and smart cities, courses in urban information perception and analysis, urban information engineering and development, and urban information applications and services are offered, emphasizing the thinking of interdisciplinary study.

PhD students:

The Doctoral programin Architecture and Urban planningclosely focus on architectural design and its theory, architectural history and heritage protection, green building technology, urban design and its theory.and built environment information technology.The Doctoral program for Urban Informatics emphasizes research and development of the new technologies in smart cities. The professors in above two programs often teach students through various forms of courses, including seminars, discusstion, bilingual courses, academic conferences, etc., tostimulate students' independent research ability.
